Bally Gaming
Bally Gaming has had a progressive climb to success
from the company's inception to today, gaining its
widely accepted title as being one of the best known game
manufacturers in the world. It's early days were spent
producing and selling pinball machines, which were all
the rage in the early 1930's and well into the 1940's -
with a resurge of popularity throughout the 1970's and
1980's. Their steadfast dedication to producing the
highest quality gaming products has never wavered and
has been their anchor in a very competitive market.
Bally has an array of products that have also touched other
markets of entertainment, including theme parks, land based and online
casinos as well as health and fitness equipment that can
be found in gyms and health clubs everywhere.
To indulge in a short history lesson of the Bally
Gaming Company, we must acknowledge the company founder,
Ray Maloney, who in 1932, incorporated Bally Gaming into
the Lion Manufacturing company which was the chief
manufacturer on pinball machines. Later, in the same
decade, Bally began designing mechanical slot machines
that would later be a standard in casinos all over the
country. After a change of ownership and some financial
hardships for Lion Manufacturing and Bally Gaming in the
1950's, including the passing of their founding father,
Bally Gaming was sold to private investors, who took
charge of developing new avenues such as video games,
and also began the push in marketing slot machines as
their two focal points. By the late 1960's Bally was
on it's way to very big things.
The popularity of pinballs began to waver when the
introduction of video games shook the gaming world. And Bally was right there in the thick of things when they
purchased the rights to two of the worlds most sought
after video games - Space Invaders and the biggest
selling game in history, Pac Man. The success of these
two games was unbelievable. No one could have predicted
the avalanche that was started as more and more video
games were developed and as fast as they could create
new ones, the demand for more and better games soared.
Riding on their previous success, Bally Gaming took
the next step and dived right into Las Vegas with their brand of slot machines. It
wasn't an easy ride, nor was their any clue as to just
how far this move would take the company. Today, some of
the games that are credited to Bally Gaming are Saturday
Night Live and Playboy Slots, and many more too numerous
to list.
Bally Gaming became more than a contender for their
competitors - they became the company to beat. But as it
turns out, it's harder to keep up, much less beat this
rock solid giant of a company.
