Latin America may be the next place the online casinos and Internet gambling operators look to set up shop.  Right now that region of the world is showing nothing put promise.  By 2011, predicts the Centre for Telecoms Research, Latin America will be home to 30 million broadband users.

The economies in Latin American countries are more stable now than ever.  Countries like Uruguay, Panama, and Argentina are experiencing rising gross domestic products.  Leaders of the online casinos industry are rightfully keeping their eyes on Latin America.

However, some industry experts warn that though Latin America is showing potential, online casinos may need to tread lightly in their pursuit to capitalize on the region.  James Kilsby works for Gambling Compliance, a regulatory information firm.  He says of online casinos in Latin America, “It is important to remember that there are many cultural differences between the different countries in the region - and sometimes vast differences between the different regions within a given country - so making generalizations is extremely difficult.”

This seems healthy advice to any industry preparing to enter Latin America, not just exclusive to online casinos.

One of the major countries of interest for online casinos has become Argentina.  What makes Argentina so attractive is the fact that the country has the highest percentage of Internet users among South American countries in relation to population.  26 percent of Argentineans have access to the Internet and there for online casinos. 

There is a long history of state owned gambling operations as a standard in Argentina.  But laws are just now starting to lift, allowing room for competition from independent operators.
